Benson & Hedges cigarettes – powerful advertising
Benson & Hedges cigarettes are a brand of English cigarettes manufactured by Philip Morris International, Japan Tobacco and British American Tobacco. In England, they are registered on the company’s Old Bond Street, the office of which is based in London, as they are produced in Ballymena, Northern Ireland.
In Indonesia, these cigarettes are manufactured by tobacco companies such as Sampoerna, Djarum, Bentoel Group and PT Gelora Djaja.
Virginia tobacco is the main basis of tobacco products used.
Benson & Hedges cigarette brand was founded in Canada in 1873 by Richard Benson and William Hedges. Later, after the death of William Hedges, the reins of the family business were taken over by his son Alfred. This happened in 1885.
In the same year Richard Benson decided to terminate the partnership. After that, the company headquarters moved to England. In the United States, Benson & Hedges branch was opened in the 1900’s. In 1928 the US subsidiary became independent.
Philip Morris acquired the brand in 1958. Benson & Hedges Ltd. in the British kingdom was bought by Gallaher Group in 1955. This brand was the holder of the Royal Warrant, which it won in 1878.
After that, some time later tobacco products were delivered to the court, for which the company received the right to apply coat of arms of the royal warrant to the packaging of cigarettes.
In 1999, when the demand for cigarettes expressed by the nobility fell dramatically, the brand lost its right to apply the coat of arms that was previously placed on the panel and on the lid of the box.
In the 70s of the last century the company Benson & Hedges in the UK managed to increase the volumes of sales of tobacco products under its own name with the help of the powerful advertising clip at that time, which was on the verge of what could be and could not be shown in advertising of cigarettes.
In 2007, Benson & Hedges changed the exterior design of package for filter cigarettes. Also, there was introduced a slightly different formula of production of the tobacco products.
In addition, the company released an additional Silver version, which contained less tar and 0.1 mg of nicotine. It allowed making the cost of the product slightly cheaper and the price became reasonable.
